Why Merlin travels well

  1. 01

    A legend audiences already know

Arthurian legend is part of the shared culture of Europe, the Americas and Asia. The title needs no introduction, yet the story is entirely new.

  2. 02

A new score by a film composer

Lukáš Daniel Pařík writes for cinema (the Czech fairy-tale films Princess Cursed in Time and Princess Goldenhair) and brings a symphonic, film-scale sound to the stage.

  3. 03

    Directed by Lumír Olšovský

The director behind the Czech productions of Billy Elliot, Mamma Mia!, Dracula, Sister Act and Rebecca.

  4. 04

Conceived for large stages and open air

Before its Prague premiere the production will play six open-air summer stages, so it is conceived for amphitheatres as well as major musical houses.

Synopsis

Avalon is an island hidden in the mists, where humans, elves and lake fairies live side by side under King Arthur. When hope begins to fade and the king grows weak, the wizard Merlin returns to guide three unlikely heroes: a knight who has lost his memory, the lake fairy who loves him, and a jester who cannot stop joking. Against them stands Nimue, Queen of the Lake, who would rid Avalon of pain at the cost of its people's free will. A story of hope and fated love for a wide audience.
